About Balmoral

Balmoral Cycling club was started in 1946,initially with road racing and then using a track at Hawthorne Park. Until the construction of the Chandler complex this was the hub of track cycling in Brisbane. In 1996 the Club moved when the criterium track in Murarrie was constructed.

The Club has produced a number of road and track champions at State, National, and World titles, and at Commonwealth Games level.

Club members are issued with a license which includes affiliation with the Australian Cycling Federation and Queensland Cycling Association. Membership offers a number of benefits such as participation in racing, social rides, insurance cover, and access to training programs.

Club Rides

Sunday morning Club Ride

The Balmoral Sunday Club Ride will change start time and course on 4 October 2009. As with normal custom the Balmoral Sunday ride will revert to an earlier 6 am start on the first Sunday in October. We are also taking the opportunity to change the course of the ride to restore the ride back to the traditional distance of approximately 75k.

Over the last few years the Sunday ride has been shortened due to issues with riding at the Port of Brisbane and the ride has gone from a 75-80k ride down to a 60k ride. The new ride route will take in much of the existing ride and include additional areas through Capalaba, Sheldon and the outskirts of Cleveland. A full map of the ride and description is available on Google maps via the following link:

Sunday Club Ride on Google Maps

As with the traditional Sunday club ride a key feature is the ride must accommodate all levels of rider and this ride offers 3 shortcuts for younger riders, new riders and those looking for a shorter and easier ride. A club member will be available to take any riders that wish to do the shortcuts down these routes. With each shortcut there is a designated regroup point where all riders will regroup to continue on the ride. This is intended as a club ride which will in the main stay together for the majority of the ride.

The Club prides itself on being friendly and supportive, especially to new members. At Balmoral no one is ever left behind on a ride. If a flat should occur- help is at hand.

Please note: If you are not a member of a cycling club, and are not a licenced rider, you join this ride at your own risk. Riding in a group requires certain skills, and a respect for other riders around you. If you are new to this type of cycling, then make yourself known to the ride leader, and you will be given a leaflet containing advice to help make you ride safer and more enjoyable.
